A team of young sailors from the Rarotonga Sailing Club (RSC) achieved impressive results at the Oceania Optimist and ILCA4 2025 Championship in Tahiti last month.
The excitement is building for nine young Rarotonga Sailing Club (RSC) sailors heading to Tahiti to compete in the annual Oceania Optimist and ILCA4 2025 Championship Sailing Regatta next fortnight.
Hosted by Yacht Club De Tahiti in Arue, 5km east of Papeete, the regatta will run from April 1 - 4 with up to 20 races to be sailed.
Sailors from Tahiti edged over Rarotonga, proving to be very competitive taking out first place in both the Lasers and the Optimist classes, winning the 2024 sailing challenge overall trophy.
The Rarotonga - Tahiti Challenge had sailors competing in the Optimist Class, Laser 4.7 Class and Vaka from October 21 – 25 hosted by the Rarotonga Sailing Club (RSC).

The Rarotonga Sailing Club (RSC) is pleased to be hosting sailors and coaches from Tahiti this week for the Rarotonga-Tahiti Sailing Challenge.
The 6th annual Muri Lagoon Beach Cleanup took place last Saturday, marking another successful year for this fantastic community event.
Organised by Muri Environment Care in collaboration with Te Ipukarea Society, Infrastructure Cook Islands, and the Rarotonga Sailing Club. The annual event is a highlight in the community's calendar, in recognition of World Ocean Day.
Eighteen sailors from Rarotonga, Aitutaki, and New Zealand’s Picton, Buckland’s Beach, and Mangawhai sailing and yacht clubs raced each other in match racing and fleet racing in perfect conditions earlier this month.
Organised by the “awesome Aitutaki Electron Sailing Club”, led by Thomas Koteka and Ted Tavai with help from many on Aitutaki, the event held earlier this month was hailed as a monumental success.

Over the weekend, the Cook Islands National Sunburst Championship 2024 was held on March 1st and 2nd.
The Optimist National Championships 2023 held on Muri Lagoon saw sailors under the age of 16 and a fleet of 11 Optimists and four ‘Jellybeans’ (Plastic Optimists) competing.
The event which is considered the pinnacle youth event on the sailing calendar was held on Friday and Saturday, November 10 and 11.
